Sony VAIO PCG-2RTA Subnotebook review


Sony has always followed a trend of making ultra light and small notebooks. VAIO PCG-2RTA is no exception from that. The specifications are as usual high end and super tech.

Size: VAIO PCG-2RTA is a comparatively smaller and lighter in body structure. The structural dimensions are 10.6×1.40×7.4 inch and the notebook weighs 3.11 pounds. The notebook is covered in a magnesium alloy case.
Display: With the usual trend of high quality display specifications Sony put impressive features in VAIO PCG-2RTA too. It includes 10.6 inch XBRITE TFT LCD Display with a resolution of 1280×768. The notebook will be provided with Intel 855GM Chipset Integrated Graphics. Also a Built-In 64MB video memory is there for improved video storage. It has the ability to drive an external monitor.

Sound: PCG-2RTA has a Dolby Headphone and Dolby Virtual Speaker with Built-In stereo speakers. One of the most interesting features is monaural mini-jack microphone. The notebook contains Internal MIC. SoundMAX integrated digital audio controller made by analog devices have added to its specifications.

Processor: The notebook contains Centrino Technology Ultra Low Voltage Intel Pentium M Processor running at 1GHz. The specifications of it are 64K level 1 cache, 1 meg level 2 cache, 400 MHz front side bus and Intel 855 Centrino Chipset.

RAM: The RAM is 512MB standard and 1GB expandable.

Drives: Among the drives the 40GB hard drive is major with 100MB/s Ultra DMA Transfer rate. There are also internal DVD/CD-RW drives

Battery: The battery is 4300mAh Lithium_ION

Software: The software version is Windows XP Home.

Ports: 1 PCMCIA slot (supports type I & II as well as CardBus), 1 Memory Stick slot supporting Memory Stick Pro, 1 FireWire (IEE 1394) 4 pin non-powered 400 Mpbs, 2 USB 2.0 ports, RJ45 Ethernet 10/100, VGA, audio in and out.
